THANKSGIVING

1966

We arrived in Vietnam in early October and spent a relative peaceful

period leading up to Thanksgiving, which was celebrated on November 23rd

that year. On the day after Thanksgiving we were flown to Dau Tieng

where we would establish Camp Rainier, named after the mountain

in Washington state, where the 4th ID trained in preparation

of our deployment to Vietnam.  We would have our Christmas dinner

at Dau Tieng, and it would be different than our quiet Thanksgiving at Bear Cat, a

comparatively safe location.
