At 8:00 a bus will take a group of us to Fort McHenry. The 12th Infantry Regiment helped to defend that fort during the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812.
Francis Scott Key viewing offshore inspired him to write the Star Spangled Banner.
I'll have more details on this visit in a subsequent update.
Upon our return trip back to our hotel we will be stopping off at the cemetery where Honor Roll veteran Jim Mosgrove is buried to lay a wreath and pay tribute to that man who served with us in the 2/12th and was killed just a week before he was due to return stateside. We will return to the hotel directly from this visit.
At noontime we will be served lunch consisting of:
Saturday Lunch Menu
Deli Deluxe - Served with everything listed here
Sliced fruit, Amish potato salad, Rotini Pasta Salad, potato chips
Roast Beef, Honey ham, smoked turkey breast
Swiss, American and cheddar cheeses
Assorted rolls and breads
Choice of cookies or brownies
At the conclusion of the meal and allowing for the cleaning up of the hall by the servers we will begin our annual ceremony. I would guess about 1:15 to 1:30 PM, so don't leave the hall unless you need to go out for a smoke. If you don't have one, Sgt. Walter will be happy to take care of that.
DETAILS WILL BE PUBLISHED SHORTLY
After the ceremony we will be directed outside (weather permitting) to take our annual groups photos.
Dinner will follow at 5PM consisting of:
Saturday Hot Dinner Buffet
Garden Salad
Roast Beef with au jus
Roasted Turkey with Seasoned Gravy
Roasted red potatoes with vegetable medley
Dessert - Yellow Cake
At 7PM we will begin our annual social with all the entertainment that brings to the table. This year we are happy to have
Al Parsons Band as our primary entertainment. I can't wait to see their face when they hear our 'Alpha Association's Glee Club' perform old standard songs that are sometimes recognized, and other times, well, not so much.
I will be playing DJ during the band's breaks playing oldies, country, rap, and opera favorites. Well,, maybe not so much of the latter two.
If the past is any example of what will happen, the social will probably last until 10PM when some of our older participants will probably need to be wakened up to be brought to their rooms. For the rest of us, it'll back to the bar to tell war stories, true and untrue.
More coming soon
